Marcia Lausen recognized as UIC Distinguished Professor
Marcia Lausen was recognized as UIC Distinguished Professor at the Faculty Awards Ceremony on October 26. This University honor acknowledges persons who have made a significant impact upon their field through scholarship, creativity and leadership.
Marcia Lausen is Director of the UIC School of Design and founder of the Chicago office of Studio/lab, an award-winning design firm. She has been recognized with several acclaimed awards in her discipline, including the AIGA Medal, considered the highest recognition in the profession. Lausen has proven herself to be an inspiring leader at UIC. She has played key roles in establishing an independent School of Design within the College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts, developing an exchange program with the Basel School of Design in Switzerland, and the design and development of the UIC/North Lawndale bid to host the Barack Obama Presidential Library. Following the 2000 presidential election, Marcia played a leading role in Design for Democracy, a national election design reform initiative of AIGA. Her book of the same title was published in 2007 by the University of Chicago Press. She has been honored with the UIC University Scholar Award as well as awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the State of Oregon Elections Division, and the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.
